yes i know it does. but thats how i recieved it.... so do you think it is asking if IM behaving myself... or if Luis is behaving? because that would make a difference in how i reply

No, in my opinion she is asking if Luis is behaving. to make sure, give us some context. Who is Luis?

Go with Heidita's reply. I thought you didn't know the person, hence I translated como se porta as the usted polite form. But if there is a comma after luis, it is asking how is he behaving.

Very funny, Jane, no way your "mother in law" would ask you if you are behaving, she is talking about her son. which is not surprising as mothers know a lot.... I am sure he behaves quite differently in her home....
I stick with my version.
